Content untill the end of days…

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

I’ve already told you a few things about getting content from article websites, getting content this way is as easy as copy/paste. Now if you want to put a lot of content on your website this way it can take quite some time. So after some searching on the ‘net I’ve managed to close some great deals on complete article databases. With now over 50,000 articles in over 100 categories in my possession I have more content than I can handle! The search is on for some good domain names to fill with all this content.

The need for speed

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

I told you about web hosting a while ago, one thing I didn’t talk about back then is speed. I just witnessed first hand how important the speed of your website is. A few of weeks ago I acquired a domain name and an existing website. Since the website was looking quite nice and working perfectly I didn’t spend any time on improving it. The site came with hosting payed for another couple of months so I was in no hurry to move it to my regular webhosting service at Moduhost.
While checking on the traffic logs a few days ago I decided to move the site over because it is a little bit easier to check the logs of the sites hosted on my reseller account: logging on as the reseller enables me to check all the site stats without the need to log on to each websites account.
I had noticed that the other host was quite a bit slower than I was used to with all my other sites, but I didn’t think much of it. If I had known what I know now I had moved the site over the day that I acquired it. After the move I’ve seen quite an increase in my traffic statistics, visitors stay longer and view more pages. I guess they used to just leave the site because it was too slow. The increase I see in my traffic can also be seen in the adsense income for the site! So if your looking into getting your website hosted somewhere, be sure to check the speed of the host: ask for some sites that are hosted on the same server and see if they load in a reasonable time!

p.s. a little update on the submitted article (the search engine count on it)
about 2 weeks have passed since submitting the article, the search for a phrase from my article gets the following number of hits:
Google: 23
MSN: 23
Yahoo: 1
Google-bot has now found the same number of copies of my article as the MSN-spider, I have no idea whats taking Yahoo so long…
Theres still quite some article sites on Publish-Your-Article.com that I didn’t submit my article to, I might visit some of these sites soon to get my article published to some more sites.

Looking good so far.

I told you earlier that I made $25 with AdSense last year. After adding AdSense ads to one of my sites that was getting some traffic already and starting two new ones, my AdSense income for the first month of this year was $15.48 which comes down to $0.50 a day with only just over 800 pageviews a day. The income from these sites would add up to about $180 a year which is not much, but would very comfortably cover the yearly domain registration and hosting costs.
In February I started some more sites and changed the placement of ads a little on the existing sites, while the number of pageviews dropped down to about 500 a day the AdSense income went up to an average of $0.82 a day.
I have put a lot of time into the creation of websites lately and while the cash is not exactly comming in big time, things are certainly moving in the right direction!

Less than a week has passed, my article got published at quite some article sites and some have made it into the search engines. The current count of results while searching for a perticular phrase from my submitted article:
Google:5
MSN: 18
Yahoo:1
The MSN search engine seems to index new pages the fastest, I’ve always noticed this on all my other websites as well. However, after a little more time passes I usually get most of my search engine visitors from Google.
While the search engine traffic will take a little while to pick up because of your article publication, I have noticed a small boost of visitors that came from article sites. The number of visitors you get in this way is the highest right after you article got published. This is because most article websites have the newest articles featured on the front page of the website. So far I’d say that the article publication definitely has positive effects on your website traffic. If you are looking for places to publish your article have a look at Public Brain Articles While there are not many categories on the site yet, the site accepts articles on any subject, if several articles have been submitted for the same categorie it will be created and the articles will be published.
